Amid ban on TV shootings, here's how Malayalam TV plans to entertain viewers

The state government has halted TV shootings on April 29 due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 cases in Kerala. Since then, television networks have been devising strategies to deal with the crisis.

However, we learned from the leading General Entertainment Channels (GECs) that they have a backlog of episodes that will run for a maximum of two weeks. Most fiction and non-fiction shows have enough episodes to keep viewers entertained for another couple of weeks. If the limits remain in place, however, networks may be forced to broadcast reruns.

Due to a lack of new episodes, the iconic serial 'Ente Mathavu' was temporarily halted on television. The famous Malayalam-dubbed show 'Nandini' will air in its place. Music reality shows such as 'Star Singer' and 'Super 4' have a content bank, according to recent news. The celebrity game show 'Rock n Roll', on the other hand, is set to air its best segments in upcoming episodes. 'Star Magic' will continue to air episodes for another week. The reality show 'Suryajodi,' which was cancelled due to the lockdown last year, is now being re-aired.

Owing to shooting limits, the premieres of two new shows have been postponed. The game show 'Anchinodu Inchodinju,' hosted by actor-politician Suresh Gopi, and a celebrity show featuring TV stars, both of which were scheduled to premiere in the last week of May, have been postponed.
