It may take another 12 hours to rescue the two-year-old boy who has been trapped in a borewell in Tamil Nadu's Trichy since Friday, a senior government official said, adding the baby is in a stable state. To reach the kid, Sujith, the rescue team is digging a one-meter-wide tunnel parallel to the borewell, but progress is slow due to the rocky terrain, he said. The fire service workers must try to reach the baby through a vertical gap after drilling.
"Rocky terrain has delayed a new borewell's mining. It may take another 12 hours to rescue," Dr Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Relief Commissioner said Monday.
"To dig 40 inches more and then create a path. The baby is in a stable condition and is tracked by a screen," he said.
Sujith, who had played by the borewell, dropped in at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday night, according to the report. There are conflicting reports of the pit depth — some claim it's 600 feet deep, while others suggest it's at least 1,000 feet deep.
