It may take another 12 hours to rescue the two-year-old boy who has been trapped in a borewell in Tamil Nadu's Trichy since Friday, a senior government official said, adding the baby is in a stable state. To reach the kid, Sujith, the rescue team is digging a one-meter-wide tunnel parallel to the borewell, but progress is slow due to the rocky terrain, he said. The fire service workers must try to reach the baby through a vertical gap after drilling.
"Rocky terrain has delayed a new borewell's mining. It may take another 12 hours to rescue," Dr Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Relief Commissioner said Monday.
"To dig 40 inches more and then create a path. The baby is in a stable condition and is tracked by a screen," he said.
Sujith, who had played by the borewell, dropped in at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday night, according to the report. There are conflicting reports of the pit depth — some claim it's 600 feet deep, while others suggest it's at least 1,000 feet deep.
Sujith was without food and water in the borewell. Sujith was without food and water in the borewell.
