When it comes to Malayalam movies comedy is an unavoidable part. We couldn't just point out any movie without comedy(few exemptions are there). Here are few comedy masterpiece worth seeing.

1. Ramji Rao Speaking:


One among the best classic comedy movie with such a plot, that it is still relevant unto a mark. This film remains as an icon in film industry till this day. Siddique–Lal are a screenwriter and director duo, consisting of Siddique and Lal. They were active together in Malayalam cinema during 1989–1995. Particularly known for making films in the comedy genre, the films that came out of the partnership include Ramji Rao Speaking (1989), In Harihar Nagar (1990), Godfather (1991), Vietnam Colony (1992), and Kabooliwala (1993). All of these films were some of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema and many of them have a cult following in Kerala.Plot: Three bachelors struggle to earn a living as they are unemployed. However, they decide to get involved in a kidnapping scheme to make quick money.

2. Kilukkam:



Kilukkam (English: Jingle) is a 1991 Indian Malayalam-language musical romantic comedy film directed by Priyadarshan and written by Venu Nagavalli. The story set in Ooty revolves around tourist guide Joji (Mohanlal) and photographer Nishchal (Jagathy Sreekumar). They happen to meet a lavish tourist Nandini (Revathi), whom they bet their fortunes on. It also stars Thilakan, Innocent, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, Sukumari, and Sharat Saxena, with Murali and Jagadish making cameo appearances. The music was composed by S. P. Venkatesh. Kilukkam was released on 15 August 1991. The film was the highest-grossing Malayalam film at that time, with gross over ₹5 crore for the first time in Malayalam film history; it ran for more than 365-days at the theaters. Kilukkam won five Kerala State Film Awards, including Best Actor for Mohanlal, Second Best Actor for Jagathy Sreekumar, Best Editor for N. Gopalakrishnan, and Best Cinematographer for S. Kumar. The film is regarded as one of the best comedy films of Malayalam cinema.
Plot:Nandini is an illegitimate child who comes to Ooty in search of her father. She meets Joji, a tourist guide, and pretends to be mentally unstable in order to get shelter in his house.

3.Pattanapravesham:


Pattanapravesham (English: Town Entry) is a 1988 Malayalam screwball comedy film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and written by Sreenivasan. It is the sequel to Nadodikkattu and follows the story of Dasan (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan) who are now CIDs and are investigating a homicide case. The film was produced by Siyad Koker under the banner of Kokers Films. Just six months after the events of the prequel, CID Ramdas (Mohanlal) and CID Vijayan (Sreenivasan) are called to Kerala to solve the murder of a police officer. The two incompetent and clueless men find themselves facing a dangerous crime syndicate led by Prabhakaran Thampi (Karamana Janardanan Nair) that deals in drug trafficking. In addition, Anandan Nambiar (Thilakan) who is the man they put behind bars in Nadodikkattu escapes from jail. The film was a critical and commercial success. In 1990, Priyadarshan made a sequel titled Akkare Akkare Akkare.
Plot: CID officers Ramdas and Vijayan go to Kerala to find the murderer of a police officer. While doing so, they face a dangerous crime syndicate that deals in drug trafficking.

4.Nadodikkattu:



Nadodikattu (English: Vagabond Wind) is a 1987 Indian Malayalam-language satirical comedy film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and written by Sreenivasan based on a story by the Siddique–Lal duo. The story revolves around two impecunious young Indian men, Ramdas (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan) who not being able to find any job in Kerala, plan to immigrate to Dubai to make their fortunes, but get deceived and end up in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. Nadodikattu drew upon relevant social factors affecting Kerala of the 1980s such as widespread unemployment and poverty. The film also stars Thilakan, Shobhana, Innocent, Mamukkoya, Captain Raju, Meenakumari, Kundara Johny, Janardhanan, Ajith Kollam, and Sankaradi in pivotal roles along with cameo appearances by Seema, I. V. Sasi, and M. G. Soman as themselves. The film represents popular Malayalam cinema at its satirical best and established the Mohanlal-Sreenivasan combination as one of its most memorable and bankable cinematic pairs. The story, screenplay and characters have achieved cult status.The film showed an extraordinary talent of late actor Thilakan who played the role of Ananthan Nambiar. Thilakan proved himself that he can handle comedy roles also. The film was produced by Casino Productions, a production company owned by Century Kochumon, Mohanlal, I. V. Sasi, Seema, and Mammootty. It gave way to two sequels—Pattanapravesham (1988) and Akkare Akkare Akkare (1990) known for their excess of mimicry and low-brow slapstick.The film was remade by Muktha V. Srinivasan in Tamil as Katha Nayagan (1988)and in Kannada as Tenali Rama. Plot elements were also used in the 2006 Hindi comedy film Bhagam Bhag. The film was also remade in Telugu in which Chandra Mohan played the role of Vijayan.Plot:After losing their jobs, Dasan and Vijayan decide to go to Dubai to try their luck. But they end up in a different location, where they are mistaken for crime investigation officers.

5.Vadakkunokkiyantram:


Vadakkunokkiyantram (Malayalam: വടക്à´•ുà´¨ോà´•്à´•ിയന്à´¤്à´°ം, (English:Mariner's Compass) is a 1989 Malayalam black comedy film written and directed by Sreenivasan. The film is about the marital discord caused by a husband's inferiority complex. It was remade in Tamil as Dindigul Sarathy, in Kannada as Nanjangudu Nanjunda and in Hindi as Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh.
Plot:Thalathil Dineshan has a severe inferiority complex with respect to his short stature and dark complexion. When he gets married to a beautiful woman, his care for her soon turns into suspicion.

6.Boeing Boeing:



Boeing Boeing is a 1985 Indian Malayalam comedy film written and directed by Priyadarshan. The story is based on the 1960 French play of the same name. The plot follows Shyam (Mohanlal) who tries dating more than one air hostess with the help of his friend Anilkumar (Mukesh). The film is one of the best comedy films in Malayalam and one of the most successful films of Priyadarshan-Mohanlal-Mukesh combination. The film was a blockbuster and remains one of the cult classic comic capers in Malayalam cinema. It was remade in Telugu as Chilakkottudu (1997) and in Kannada as Nee Tata Naa Birla. Priyadarshan remade the film in Hindi as Garam Masala (2005).

Plot: Shyam, a flirt, seeks the help of his friend to date many girls at a time. However, unexpected turn of events crumbles the situation and they are caught in their own web of lies.

7.Akkare Akkare Akkare


Akkare Akkare Akkare (English: Beyond Across and Forever) is a 1990 Malayalam buddy comedy thriller film directed by Priyadarshan and written by Sreenivasan. It is the sequel to 1987's Nadodikkattu and 1988's Pattanapravesham. The story follows C. I. Ds Dasan (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan) on an investigation for a stolen gold crown in the United States. Others in the cast include M. G. Soman, Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Parvathy, Nedumudi Venu, Sukumari, Jagadish, and K. P. A. C. Lalitha.
Plot: CID officers Ramdas and Vijayan set out to the USA to retrieve a priceless gold crown stolen from India. Once there, they manage to crack the case with a pseudonym and a torn piece of cloth as clues.

8.Punjabi House



Punjabi House (Malayalam: പഞ്à´šാà´¬ി à´¹ൗà´¸്‌) is a 1998 Indian Malayalam-language comedy-drama film, written and directed by Rafi Mecartin. It stars Dileep, Cochin Hanifa, Harisree Asokan and Mohini in the lead roles, along with a supporting cast consisting of Lal, Neena Kurup, Janardanan, Thilakan, Jomol, N. F. Varghese, Indrans and Kunchan. The music was composed by Suresh Peters and S. P. Venkatesh, the former composing the songs, making his debut as a film composer and the latter composing the score. The film was released as a grand Onam release on the day of Thiruvonam in 1998 (4 September) and became a huge blockbuster, becoming the second highest grosser after Harikrishnans. The film was remade by Priyadarshan in Bollywood as Chup Chup Ke in 2006, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, and Sunil Shetty. It was remade again in Kannada with the same title, Punjabi House (2002).
Plot:An unemployed man buys an insurance policy. However, he faces a lot of harassment when he is unable to repay his debts and attempts to commit suicide by drowning in the sea.

9. Manichitrathazhu



Manichitrathazhu (English: The Ornate Lock) is a 1993 Indian Malayalam-language epic psychological thriller film directed by Fazil, written by Madhu Muttam, and produced by Swargachitra Appachan. The story is based on a tragedy that happened in the Alummoottil tharavad, a central Travancore family, in the 19th century. The film dealt with an unusual theme which was not common in Indian cinema at the time but it proceeded to become the highest grosser at the box-office and it was critically acclaimed as well.
Plot: Psychiatrist Dr Sunny Joseph is asked to help a friend. Sunny accepts this assignment not realizing that there is another side to this tale and he may end up endangering everyone's life.

10.Mookilla Rajyathu



Mookilla Rajyathu is a Malayalam movie released in 1991 directed by the duo Ashokan-Thaha featuring Mukesh, Thilakan, Jagathy and Siddique in the lead roles. This comedy flick revolves around four patients who escape a mental asylum, their antics and the mischief they get up to while trying to start life in a "normal" society, which, as the title appears to insinuate, often fares worse in terms of sanity. The characters are loosely derived from the 1989 comedy film The Dream Team. A key sub-plot in the movie is similar to the Sherlock Holmes story The Red-Headed League.
Plot:Benny, Venu, Keshu and Krishnankutty are inmates in a mental asylum. However, they land in trouble when they escape to start a new life.\

Meleparambil Anveedu

Harikrishnan falls in love with Pavizham and keeps her in his home as a maid after their marriage. Things go wrong when Pavizham becomes pregnant and is dismissed from her job by Hari's mother.

Mithunam

Sethumadhavan who plans to start a biscuit factory near his house faces bureaucracy and corruption along with problems created by his brother and brother-in-law.
